Public information and uninformed trading: Implications for market liquidity and price efficiency

چکیده

We develop a rational expectations equilibrium model in which noise trading comes from discretionary liquidity traders. The equilibrium quantity of aggregate noise trading is endogenously determined by the population size of liquidity traders active in the financial market. By improving market liquidity, public information reduces the expected trading loss of liquidity traders and thus attracts more such traders to the market, which negatively affects information aggregation. Analyzing an alternative setting that models noise trading as coming from hedgers yields similar insights. In a setting with endogenous information, public information can harm information aggregation both through crowding out private information and through attracting noise trading. © 2016 Elsevier Inc. Securities Trading when Liquidity Providers are Informed

Securities Trading when Liquidity Providers are Informed Abstract We study securities trading when liquidity is provided by informed agents—either because dealers have superior access to market information or because informed traders exploit strategies involving limit orders. In the case of informed dealers, we show that dealers and informed traders profit more at the expense of uninformed liqu...

The Probability of Informed Trading and the Performance of Stock in an Order-Driven Market

We estimate the probability of informed trading (Pi) in an order-driven stock market and perform a comprehensive analysis on the interrelations among Pi and three common performance indicators: liquidity, volatility, and efficiency. We find that uninformed traders exhibit price chasing behavior, and price volatility attracts uninformed traders. Using 3SLS which considers the endogeneity of Pi a...

Time-Varying Arrival Rates of Informed and Uninformed Trades

We propose a dynamic econometric microstructure model of trading, and we investigate how the dynamics of trades and trade composition interact with the evolution of market liquidity, market depth, and order flow. We estimate a bivariate generalized autoregressive intensity process for the arrival rates of informed and uninformed trades for 16 actively traded stocks over 15 years of transaction ...

F INANCE R ESEARCH S EMINAR S UPPORTED BY U NIGESTION " Demand - Based Security Design

Uninformed investors facing future carrying cost (liquidity) shocks determine primary market prices for asset-backed securities. A liquidity provider subsequently buys tendered securities in competitive secondary markets. Liquidity provision is distorted by a speculator receiving a private signal regarding cash flow. Optimal structuring minimizes total trading loss and carrying cost discounts d...

Strategic Trading, Liquidity and Information Acquisition

We study endogenous liquidity trading in a market with long-lived asymmetric information. We distinguish between public information, tractable information that can be acquired and intractable information that cannot be acquired. Besides information asymmetry and noise, the adverse-selection spread depends on the diffusion of intractable information and on the interest rate. With endogenous liqu...
